Learn the Form That Is The "Core" of Chen Family Taijiquan
Learn the complete Laojia Yilu (Old Frame First Form) with detailed, step-by-step instruction and internal body mechanics that bring the movements to life. Five hours of instruction on 2 DVDs.
Decades of Learning On Two DVDs
Laojia Yilu is more than choreography. It is the foundation of Chen style Taijiquan — the form where you develop whole-body connection, silk-reeling energy, balance, rooted power, and internal strength.
In this 2-disc instructional DVD set, Ken Gullette teaches the complete 75-movement form in detail, with a focus on body mechanics that many students struggle to understand -- body mechanics that cannot be learned from books or articles.
Ken learned the Laojia Yilu form from Grandmaster Chen Xiaowang, Grandmaster Chen Xiaoxing, and their disciples. He has spent nearly 30 years practicing and teaching this form.
This form is considered the "essence" of Chen Taiji - 75 movements that are guided by internal body mechanics. It is a relaxed, graceful, but powerful martial arts form, punctuated by bursts of power.
Tai Chi is sometimes done for meditation, but the Chen family created Taiji to be a martial art, and they still practice that way. The goal of these movements is to break an opponent and put him down. It is practiced slowly to learn the proper body mechanics. You practice the self-defense applications faster.
On these DVDs, Ken demonstrates the complete form from a front a rear view, then breaks down each movement in detail that you won't find in other DVDs. There is always an empasis on the internal body mechanics that give you the relaxed power and structure you need to achieve self-defense without unnecessary muscular tension.
And you remain mentally and physically centered at all times.
Ken teaches in plain English and holds nothing back. It is not mystical in any way - these are physical skill that take practice, but you can learn this form.
Running time of both DVDs - 5 hours 3 minutes total

"I have studied with Grandmaster Chen Xiaowang every year for the past 14 years. One of his disciples has been my instructor for over 15 years. So I have a reasonably good idea what good Taiji looks like when I see it and if it is being taught correctly. And I must say that your videos are the best I have seen, both in the clarity and accuracy of instruction and execution of the form." - B. Fleury - Killybegs, Ireland
"Ken Gullette is one of the very few westerners who truly understand the internal arts but can explain them properly in English concisely and in a way that leaves you wanting more. I am a Ph.D. studet with lots of martial art experience, so therefore not easily fooled by mystical useless Kung Fu nonsense, but none of that with Ken who will give yu better instruction than 90% of other teachers out there because he truly loves, understands and lives the internal arts. Lastly, his DVDs (besides being awesome) are so affordable....you have nothing to lose." -- A. Hill - Brisbane, Australia
"Your DVD provides clear instructions, rich detail on specific movements and postures, a nice learning pace, and the DVD sound and video are good." -- M. Garofalo - Vancouver, Washington
"There are many Taiji DVDs on the market, with great, extremely skilled Chen masters, most of those are in Mandarin, and some are even movement by movement...but really conveying the information? Sometimes it's a case of, let's just say "lost in translation," and there are far fewer still on body mechanics, alignment, and really understanding internal strength. Ken's way of teaching, I believe, is his greatest strength, the interaction and friendly correction to mistakes that we all make. We can see them, yes right there, through his students and thus, we can start to correct them for ourselves...and all this in language that is easily understood. I have viewed many instructional DVDs over my years in martial arts, and before that videotapes, and I can tell you one thing -- teaching like that is invaluable to the martial artist." - P. Louis, United Kingdom
