Unlock the Internal Mechanics of Bagua's Swimming Body Form
This advanced Cheng-style Baguazhang form is famous for its flowing beauty—but beneath every turn, coil, and change of direction are powerful martial principles. Learn the movements... and the body mechanics that make them come alive.
In this online course you will learn
Many martial artists can imitate the movements of the Swimming Body form.
Very few understand what those movements are training.
On this DVD, instructor Ken Gullette teaches the form step-by-step while revealing the internal body mechanics hidden within every transition. You'll learn alongside another student as Ken coaches, corrects mistakes, and explains the details that transform choreography into functional martial movement.
The Swimming Body form is a linked-palms routine, with lively footwork, fast changes and powerful fighting applications. It incorporates the ultimate essence of Baguazhang.
As Ken explains, "Bagua is like a spinning wire ball. If an attacker punches the ball, he gets caught up in the wire and he is spun out in unexpected directions. The ultimate goals of a Bagua fighter are to uproot, unbalance, and control the opponent's center."
There are eight sections of the form. Each section is performed first while circle-walking counter-clockwise, then each section is repeated on the other side, circle-walking clockwise.
Ken incorporates key internal body mechanics into the instruction -- the ground path, peng jin, Dan T'ien rotation, opening and closing the Kua, whole-body movement, and spiraling (silk-reeling). You will also learn the names of each movement.
Learn "Why," Not Just "How"
Every movement is broken down in detail with an emphasis on practical body mechanics and what the movement means.Â
Learn Like A Private Lesson
Instead of watching a demo and being left on your own, you'll watch Ken coach another student through the form. You'll learn from corrections, common mistakes, and the subtle details most instructional videos skip.
Discover the Martial Intent
Learn the qualities that make Bagua unique—continuous change, connected whole-body movement, mobility, spiraling force, and practical self-defense skills.
